The message inside the card reads: Once a familiar sight along our rivers and streams, water voles have disappeared from much of Britain. Loss of riverside habitat, pollution, and predation by invasive mink have pushed them to the brink, with populations falling by around 90% since the 1980s. This gift will help protect water voles by supporting our essential work to restore healthy riverbanks, monitor surviving populations, and tackle the threats they face. With gifts like yours, we’re rebuilding riverbank habitats, training volunteers to survey and monitor water voles, and working with partners to create safe, thriving wetlands — helping this much-loved species return to places it’s been lost for generations
