Join us to learn more about the incredible world of hedgerows. From nesting birds to hibernating hedgehogs, well-managed hedges can provide abundant resources for much of our wildlife. They form a key component of our natural heritage and provide many ecosystem services and functions. Yet, to maintain a healthy hedge network into the future, we need to manage hedgerows according to their natural lifecycle. A baseline assessment of hedgerow condition through surveying, can help us to tailor management that is optimal for wildlife and maintaining hedgerow health.

In this talk we will cover:

  • The importance of hedgerows to wildlife and humans
  • Hedgerow origins and threats
  • Hedgerows as a dynamic entity – their natural hedgerow lifecycle and management
  • An introduction to People’s Trust for Endangered Species hedgerow surveys.

Audience: Any students interested in conservation and wildlife generally, sustainable agriculture and managing habitats for wildlife.
